I brought in my grandfather's Seiko automatic — it had not run in about eight years. The watchmaker explained clearly what condition it was in and what a realistic service would cost. Four weeks later it came back running within a few seconds a day. The communication throughout was patient and clear.

The bracelet on my everyday watch had stretched unevenly over years of wear and always felt slightly loose. Nirand removed two links and replaced the spring bars — took about two hours in total. I did not realise how much better it could feel. Very clean result, no marks on the case.

Straightforward quartz battery service. The main difference here versus other places I have tried is that they actually check whether the seals are still doing their job. Living in Bangkok, that matters. The whole thing was done the same afternoon, and the price was exactly as quoted.

My mother passed down her old Swiss watch and I wanted to get it working again for sentimental reasons rather than expecting a perfect timekeeper. The watchmaker assessed it honestly — told me a full service would cost more than the watch's market value but could get it running again. I chose to proceed. It now winds and runs, which is all I wanted.

I had a new leather strap I had bought online that I could not fit myself without risking damaging the lugs. Nirand fitted it quickly and replaced the spring bars at the same time. The fit is clean and secure. One small note — parking on Charoen Krung is a bit of a challenge mid-week, so I would recommend arriving early.

Three quartz watches serviced over two years. Each time the experience has been consistent — clear intake process, same-day or next-day turnaround, and a brief explanation of what was checked. I have sent a few colleagues here and they have said the same. The workshop is modest in size but the standard of service is not.

Two repairs, told in full
Case Study 01
A 1960s Swiss pocket watch, stopped for 20 years
The situation
The client inherited a small Swiss pocket watch from a great-uncle. It had not been wound in roughly two decades and showed significant dust and old dried lubricant on visible movement components. The client was not expecting a show piece — they wanted to know if it could run again.
What was done
The movement was disassembled completely, ultrasonically cleaned, and inspected under magnification. Two wheel pivot holes showed slight wear. Replacement jewels were sourced through a parts network in Japan over approximately three weeks. The movement was then lubricated with grade-appropriate oils and regulated.
The outcome
The watch now runs at approximately +25 seconds per day — acceptable for a movement of its age. The client collected it after six weeks including the parts wait. Total cost came to ฿14,200 including parts. The client's comment: "I did not expect it to run at all. This is more than I hoped for."
Case Study 02
A Japanese quartz with fogged dial and moisture damage
The situation
A Bangkok resident noticed condensation forming inside the crystal of their daily quartz watch after heavy rain. The movement was still running but the dial had begun to show water marks near the 6 o'clock position. The crown seal had clearly failed.
What was done
The case was opened, the moisture removed, and the movement dried and assessed. The battery contacts showed early surface oxidation but no structural damage. A new crown seal and case back gasket were fitted. The movement was tested and found to be timing correctly. The dial marks were not removable without dial replacement, which the client chose not to pursue.
The outcome
The watch was returned resealed with a replacement battery. Total cost: ฿4,200 including gasket parts. The client returned three months later for a second watch — a pair of stainless-steel bracelets for adjusting.
